Life transformation usually takes time and a trusted guide to light the way. For spiritual life change, students need to encounter Jesus, be moved by the Holy Spirit to turn from their sin, put their faith in Christ, and begin living for Him. This inward spiritual transformation bears fruit and results in an outward life transformation. I like to call it “Spiritual Metamorphosis.”
“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” - 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)
So, how do we help transform students’ lives? Well, our student ministries need to be place where students repeatedly encounter Jesus. Is your youth ministry a place where life transformation happens? Do you want students’ lives to be changed by the power of God? That’s the goal of most youth ministries, but sometimes it can get lost in our programming. Check out these 5 Tips for Developing Life Transformation.
TRANSFORMATIONAL MOMENTS
Want more life transformation? Pray hard, invite God’s presence, and PICK 1 or more of these ministry areas to enhance: salvation, baptism, discipleship, evangelism, and serving.
1.SALVATION: Turning to Jesus
Helping students turn to Jesus and put their faith in Christ for the first time is huge! These salvation moments are the cornerstone of life transformation. Find more ways to share the life changing message of God’s love with your students, and help them understand Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins.
Do you share the gospel regularly in your ministry?
Do students know the main points of the gospel?
Have you or your leaders shared your personal faith story with your students?
Are students invited to put their faith in Jesus?
How can you enhance and make your gospel presentations better?
PRO TIP: Share the Gospel monthly (or more). Offer a 1st time prayer of faith. Keep track of decisions so you can help them grow.
2.BAPTISM: Identifying with Jesus
Baptizing students is one of my favorite things about youth ministry! I love hearing their stories of life change and watching them take a stand for their faith. Helping students take the BIG PLUNGE and get baptized is a sure-fire way to get your whole youth group excited about their faith.
Have you taught your students about baptism?
Are students invited to get baptized?
Do you give students the opportunity to share their faith story during baptism?
Does your church celebrate baptisms regularly and model this for students?
How can you elevate the value of baptism and enhance the experience?
PRO TIP: Invite students to get Baptized each quarter (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer). Record their stories of life change or have them share it live. If the Spirit leads, do it more often.
3.DISCIPLESHIP: Following Jesus
Helping students grow in their faith and develop deep spiritual roots is an essential part of our jobs. We teach them to become more and more like Jesus. We help them grow in wisdom and understanding. We encourage them to sin less and invite them to surrender to God more.
What are some of the ways your ministry helps students grow in their faith?
Do you engage students in strong biblical teaching?
Do you have small groups for life application?
Do you have a rhythm of regular worship and prayer?
Are students encouraged to read the Bible on their own?
How can you and your team enhance the discipleship process and make it better?
PRO TIP: Champion Growth! Spiritual growth happens in lots of ways so expand your discipleship efforts and provide both large and small group settings for growth to happen. It’s a team effort so get your crew involved.
4.EVANGELISM: Sharing Jesus
Sharing our faith can be scary, and students can often been intimidated by the idea. However, we can play a vital role in building their confidence, giving them training, tips, and tools to make it easier. One of the most powerful and lifechanging techniques is helping them develop and share their own faith story.
Do your students know how to share their faith in a friendly clear way?
Have you equipped them with tips & tools and given them an opportunity to practice it?
Do you create opportunities for students to share their story of Life Change?
Do you have regular outreach events designed for students to bring their friends?

How can you help your students share their faith more and make the experience more fun?
PRO TIP: Invite them to take the 3-2-1- Challenge (Pray for 3, Invite 2, Share with 1). When a student shares their faith story it solidifies something deep inside them and becomes a catalyst for life change in others as well.
5.SERVING: Acting like Jesus
Getting students involved in serving others is a great way to build their faith and develop transformational moments. Serving on ministry teams, local service projects, and missions trips are great ways to engage students in sharing God’s love through acts of service.
What are some of the ways that your students currently serve?
Do your students have opportunities to serve in your ministry, in the church, or in the community?
Are there any new, different, or creative ways for your students to serve?
Does your ministry offer missions trips, service projects, and a way to share about the experience?
How can you get more students involved in serving and using their gifts & talents?
PRO TIP: Acts of service are tangible ways for your students to become the hands and feet of Jesus.
